The first ELLA connection arose because Neuwied is twinned with Bromley, where our club Holmesdale 1956 FC is based. With the towns of Bromley and Neuwied twinned since 1987, it was only natural that the two football clubs ought to form a relationship too, and thus, the idea behind this partnership was born.

The town of Neuwied is located in the north of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, capital of the District of Neuwied and lies on the picturesque east bank of the Rhine, near to the city of Koblenz. The town is home to around 8000 inhabitants and includes the Rhein-Wied-Stadion, home to HSV Neuwied. At the time, they played in the Kreisliga A division of the German football pyramid, the equivalent of our Step 4. “In the beginning, we thought it was a funny idea to start a club friendship," comments HSV Neuwied Club President, Stephan Petry. "But in the many conversations with Nik Pye, this idea continued to develop. We are now delighted to be forming a link with Holmesdale 1956 FC from Bromley and to start an online based friendship to begin with. Further on, a supporters trip, friendlies and/or a training camp in England are planned and we look forward to building on this exciting opportunity with our new international partners.”
